Brand Redesign

The LA Leggers, one of Southern California’s largest non-profit running and walking clubs with 1,200+ members, has trained athletes for the Los Angeles Marathon and other races since 1989. In 2022, I was asked to redesign the club’s logo—the first in 34 years—along with its website, apparel, newsletter, and marathon course-side pop-up tents, refreshing its image, expanding its reach, and strengthening its community presence.

Overview

  • Logo: Updated after decades to reflect a modern identity that conveys strength, speed, and steadiness.
  • Website: Redesigned for usability, responsiveness, speed, and SEO performance.
  • eNewsletter & Apparel: Refreshed to align with the new branding and improve communication and cohesion.

Approach

  • Logo: Retained the club’s signature blue, replaced purple with black, refined the original composition, and delivered a new design quickly approved by the board.
  • Website: A full rebuild with new CMS, visuals, photography, and features—optimized for speed, accessibility, responsiveness, SEO, and an improved user experience.

Results

The new LA Leggers surveys confirmed that new members found the club through web searches, valued its professional and user-friendly site, and loved the new logo and rebrand, which contributed to a 1.2X increase in new and first-time member enrollment. The LA Leggers website now ranks 3rd on Google for “Los Angeles running club,” a major improvement from its previous 12th place and ahead of even the LA Marathon’s official training site.
