Watercolor and Digital Paintings
My most common subjects are L.A. urbanscapes, still life, and pets. I spent a few years struggling with watercolor until a summer class at Pasadena City College Extension finally taught me how to use wet and dry brush techniques properly. That marked the end—hopefully—of my muddy, overworked paintings. More recently, I’ve started painting digitally with Adobe Fresco on the iPad using the Apple Pencil.
Maynard the Cat

Maynard was my neighbor’s free-roaming indoor-outdoor cat. He was probably mostly Maine Coon, mixed with something else. He patrolled the neighborhood every day and often stopped by to visit me. I took a few photos of him, and this painting is based on one of them.
Maynard means “strong and hardy” in German—a fitting name for him. He got into fights with another neighbor’s cat, caught mice, and stared intently at birds in the trees with his piercing green eyes. But more than anything, he was gentle with people—never hissed or scratched, always calm. He’d even come when I called his name.

I used to commute long distances for work, and getting stuck in L.A. traffic gave me time to really observe the city’s notorious freeway system. Despite the congestion, I found beauty in it—the sweeping curves, the concrete bridges, and the sheer scale of the engineering. I took the liberty of removing all cars from the roads in my paintings. The still life paintings here were watercolor class assignments—a different kind of study in form and structure.
Adobe Fresco Digital Paintings
Digital painting opens up new possibilities—no mess, unlimited layers, and the freedom to undo or revisit a piece whenever inspiration strikes. I’ve seen some amazing work from other Fresco and Procreate artists that really inspire me to keep going.
